![]() The idea will be that students will have a Zoom up and muted, and use Jamulus for the audio. Ok, so… The point of Jamulus is to get around the latency that Zoom has. This is going to look like a lot of information, and when I first saw it, I was like, “No way, I can’t do this”. I wish there was like a 1-button installation and it sets you all up without having to do anything, but unfortunately, there's not. It may take a little while to get everyone on and set, but with luck, we will be able to be SINGING, no matter WHAT setting we are in. ![]() And you need to be able to download and install the Jamulus software (which is free). You'll need WIRED headphones or earbuds (AirPods or other wireless earbuds won’t work, because they actually create latency). If you want to volunteer, here’s what is needed… Jamulus requires a Mac or PC (phone or iPad won’t work, and for now, neither will Chromebooks). We have some hiccups with each test, but with each test, I learn more and more about how to get it better. Over the summer, we’ve been testing this with small groups. But I think it could allow for us to have online rehearsals, in the event that at some point, we have to have some sort of Remote Learning (which I think we all agree is better than just doing EdPuzzles). Supposedly, Jamulus has very small amount of latency. It would take the place of the audio of Zoom. With the help of a number of colleagues, I’ve been testing an audio platform called Jamulus. But we have to be ready for any possibility, including some form of at-home Remote Learning at some point. Although it will obviously not be my ultimate decision, I am doing everything possible to have us singing in September. I am hopeful and focused on us “ensemble singing”. But as I said at the end of last year, I am trying to be ready for anything. ![]() I have no inside information, no news, no idea what changes will be made to our life at Calhoun, and in the CCP. I am trying to relax as much as possible, but like you, I can’t help but be thinking about what September will bring. I hope that this message finds you and your family well, and trying to enjoy this summer-of-the-new-reality. (OVER THE SUMMER, I REACHED OUT TO A SMALL GROUP OF STUDENTS.) ![]()
